Your Friend is sharing the "NavFree launches free US iPhone navigation app with offline map data" article with you.

Check out: "NavFree launches free US iPhone navigation app with offline map data" - www.engadget.com http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/20/navfree-launches-free-us-iphone-navigation-app-with-offline-map/?icid=engadget-iphone-url
There's no shortage of iPhone navigation apps out there, but we can't say we've seen too many that come with 1.6GB of offline map data -- especially for free. That's the hook for NavFree USA, which just went live in the App Store -- sure, it also has some interesting social features like crowdsourced map updates and navigating to friends, and you can buy add-ons like traffic and speed camera info, but we think most people will use the free turn-by-turn and call it a day. That is, until Apple builds navigation directly into the OS. PR after the break.

NavFree USA: Free Turn-by-Turn GPS Navigation For iPhone amp; iPad

* Free, high quality, easy to use, voiced navigation with OpenStreetMap data
* Maps stored on the phone - navigate without relying on mobile network coverage
* New Social Location features allow users to instantly navigate to each other

LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Navigate the highways of North America with your iPhone at no cost, with today's launch of NavFree USA. From Navmii, a publisher of GPS location-based applications, NavFree is the top community-based navigation product for iPhone and iPad.

More than 700,000 users across the UK amp; Ireland have already downloaded the free GPS/Satellite Navigation app available from iTunes. Now the USA can experience NavFree, which does everything you would expect from expensive in car GPS/satellite Navigation.

Users can search for an address, point-of-interest, or even do a Google location search and are instantly routed to their desired location with full voiced directions. NavFree USA will re-route automatically if you take a wrong turn, provide information on the journey distance and estimated time of arrival.

For holidaymakers, NavFree USA is the most economical way to navigate. Since all maps are stored on the phone, NavFree USA will not generate crippling mobile data roaming charges, and will still route you to your destination even if mobile network coverage fails.

Peter Atalla, CEO of Navmii said: "NavFree has been a huge success in the UK and the most exciting part is the user community, who feedback information on their local area to improve the map data for everyone. With Navfree USA we have taken these social features even further, making it easier for people to navigate to places and their friends, for free, forever. And with the maps being stored on your iPhone or iPad you won't need to rely on mobile network coverage to navigate."

Community driven regular monthly map updates are completely free of charge. New social features allow users to instantly share their position via SMS, Email, Twitter and Facebook.

Users will also be able to add enhanced features such as speed cameras, local petrol prices and traffic information to NavFree USA by purchasing these services within the app.

Coming soon:

* NavFree for Europe
* Navfree for Android

Check out: "Apple's Find My iPhone / iPad service now free, doesn't require MobileMe" - www.engadget.com http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/22/apples-find-my-iphone-ipad-service-now-free-doesnt-require/?icid=engadget-iphone-url We'd been sort of hoping Apple would just make MobileMe a completely free service, but it looks like we're taking baby steps instead: Find My iPhone / iPad is now free for iPhone 4, the iPad, and the fourth-gen iPod touch running iOS 4.2.1. As with the paid feature, you'll be able to locate your device on a map, lock it, display a message, play a sound, or remotely wipe your data from any browser or the updated iOS app, which should presumably go live sometime today along with iOS 4.2.1 itself. Like we said, it's a baby step, but hey -- we never say no to free.

We knew there was more viral video goodness to be had with Kinect than lots and lots and lots of little green dots. And here you have it: people the world o'er punching each other, falling into things, and just generally making making asses of themselves by paying more attention to the TV than whatever objects might exist in the physical world that surrounds them. And you wondered why commercials for the device all featured players in very, very large rooms! Check out a couple of our faves after the break, and be sure to sound off in the comments if you have any of your own.

Your Friend is sharing the "Samsung Omnia 7 first hands-on (update: video!)" article with you.

Check out: "Samsung Omnia 7 first hands-on (update: video!)" - www.engadget.com http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/11/samsung-omnia-7-first-hands-on/?icid=engadget-iphone-url
Samsung's Omnia 7, ladies and gents. Equipped with the only Super AMOLED display in Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 stable, the Omnia 7 provides suitably vibrant and richly saturated visuals. To be perfectly fair, we didn't note a major advantage in using its display relative to the other WP7 devices, but that's more a mark of distinction for the other phones on show today. The hardware really is looking polished to perfection on all these devices, and the Omnia 7 isn't really breaking with that trend, showing off a remarkably lightweight body that combines straight lines with a nicely curved back that sits well in the hand. The power/lock button is curiously positioned on the side of the device, but all points of input seemed to perform very nicely once you know where they are. The depressed Windows key is basically identical to the iPhone's, dare we say it, iconic home button. As to performance, we've nothing to say that we haven't said about the other WP7 launch devices, it's blindingly, ridiculously, delightfully quick.

Update: Hey, who wants to see Engadget being pinch-to-zoomed on a 4-inch Super AMOLED screen? How about a quickie size comparison between the Omnia 7 and the iPhone 4? Both are in the video now available after the break.%Gallery-104793%

Your Friend is sharing the "Cherrypal announces $188 CherryPad America Android tablet" article with you.

Check out: "Cherrypal announces $188 CherryPad America Android tablet" - www.engadget.com http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/07/cherrypal-announces-188-cherrypad-america-android-tablet/?icid=engadget-iphone-url
You knew it was bound to happen sooner or later -- low-cost computer maker Cherrypal has gotten into the tablet game. Its first entrant is the CherryPad America, a $188 tablet that packs a 7-inch resistive touchscreen, Android 2.1 (a 2.2 update is promised later this year), an 800MHz ARM11 processor, 2GB of flash storage, a microSD card slot for expansion, built-in WiFi, and a 3200 mAh battery that promises six to eight hours of use. What's more, unlike some other low-cost Android tablets, Cherrypal says that the CherryPad will have full access to the Android Market, and it insists that it's "neither an iPad killer nor an iPad clone, it's a completely different product designed for a different market." Perhaps most surprising, however, is that the tablet is actually available right now through a partnership with online retailer Zecozi. Head on past the break for the full press release, along with a second, less polished image -- and hit up the source link below if you're ready to take the plunge.

Cherrypal Launches Powerful 7-Inch $188 Android 2.1 3D Tablet Computer for the Sub-iPad(C) Market Cherrypal Enters Into Exclusive Deal With Green Shopping Site Zecozi

PALO ALTO, Calif., Oct 07, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Cherrypal, a California-based manufacturer of high quality, low-energy consuming and affordable personal computers, today announced the availability of its new sub $200 tablet computer, the CherryPad America.

The CherryPad was designed for consumers who are looking for an affordable, powerful, high quality, and low energy-consuming tablet computer with the ability to run the Android operating system. CherryPad is powered by the fast Samsung ARM11, (CPU + GPU + DSP, OpenGL 2.0) 800 MHz processor and runs Android 2.1 and all Android applications. An upgrade option to 2.2 is planned for the fourth quarter 2010.

The CherryPad America features a 7-inch resistive touch widescreen display (no stylus needed) at 800x480 resolution with built-in gravity sensor. Memory, storage and wireless functions include 256 MBs of DDRII RAM; 2 GB NAND Flash; Micro SD (1x) reader, and WiFi 802.11 b/g.

Standard I/O ports include USB 2.0 supported by an external adapter; 3.5 mm headphone jack, built-in speakers and microphone, DC port, optional external 3G modem. The CherryPad America's Polymer 3200 MAH battery has a run time of 6-8 hours. The device weighs just 1.1 pounds and is housed in a sturdy aluminum case. MSRP of the CherryPad America is $188.

"The CherryPad America does not compete against the Apple(C) iPad. The CherryPad addresses the sub-iPad market," said Cherrypal CTO Max Seybold.

According to Seybold, CherryPad has been designed for consumers who seek a lower cost, more compact tablet PC with the ability to run Android.

"The CherryPad is neither an iPad killer nor an iPad clone, it's a completely different product designed for a different market," Seybold said. "The screen of the CherryPad is only 7-inches big, the processor is slightly less powerful, and the CherryPad comes with Android 2.1 and not Apple's iOS." At a MSRP of $188, the price for a CherryPad is also less than half of the iPad.

"Early user tests confirmed the CherryPad user experience has been extremely positive. Users appreciate full access to the Android Market, its powerful processor, battery run time, and high quality," Seybold said.

Cherrypal Partners With Zecozi Cherrypal also announced a strategic partnership with Zecozi (www.zecozi.com), a new online shopping site for conscious consumers. All Cherrypal products will be exclusively sold through Zecozi in the United States, with the exception of volume buyers. Every Cherrypal comes with a 30-day money back guarantee, as well as a 1-year replacement warranty.

"We are a hardware manufacturer first and need to focus on our core competence in order to drive down costs and offer quality products that consumers can afford. We can offer our products for such a low price because we are frugal with non-product related costs. When we looked for a strong partner who shares our green, open and fair corporate value system, Zecozi was the obvious choice," said Cherrypal CEO John Collier.

About Cherrypal Corporation Cherrypal (http://www.cherrypal.com) is a Palo Alto, California based manufacturer of high-quality, energy-efficient and low-cost computers with worldwide sales operations. Cherrypal's products are designed in Palo Alto, California and manufactured in Asia.

About Zecozi Zecozi (www.zecozi.com) is a community-driven marketplace for conscious consumers, that enable users to shop with friends and come together in real-time with the community to collectively define sustainability. The Zecozi community is the next generation of sustainable commerce.

Your Friend is sharing the "Google Goggles reaches the App Store, only supported on iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4" article with you.

Check out: "Google Goggles reaches the App Store, only supported on iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4" - www.engadget.com http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/05/google-goggles-reaches-the-app-store-only-supported-on-iphone-3/?icid=engadget-iphone-url We can't exactly figure out why Google wants to give away all of Android's competitive advantages, but hey, we doubt the legions of iOS users are kvetching. Ten months after the first public build of Goggles hit the Android Market, the same app is now making waves on the iPhone. Rather than being a standalone app, Goggles is being wrapped into a new version of the Google Mobile App; users simply tap on the camera button to search using Goggles. As you've come to expect, it'll analyze the image and highlight any object it recognizes, allowing Retina Display fanboys to touch on said objects to learn more. It'll be rolling out free of charge to App Stores worldwide today, but since it requires an auto-focusing camera, it's supported only on iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 running iOS 4 or above. The pain of progress, we guess.

[Thanks, Mark]

Netflix already added video out support to its iPad app a few months ago, and it's now finally brought the same functionality to iPhone and iPod touch users as well. Unfortunately, it's not quite bringing all iPhone and iPod touch users up to speed, as the app will only support video out on the iPhone 4 and fourth generation iPod touch. If that doesn't pose a problem for you, however, you can grab the updated app for free right now from your favorite source of iPhone apps.

Looking to get an Android device on ATamp;T? Then you're soon going to have a few more options to consider -- the carrier has just announced three new Android-based phones from Motorola. Those include the touchscreen-only Bravo (not to be confused with the HTC Bravo), and the QWERTY-equipped Flipout and Flipside, all of which will ship with Android 2.1 and the latest version of MOTOBLUR. Of the three, the Bravo is the highest-end, with it packing a 3.7-inch 854 x 480 display, an 800MHz TI OMAP 3610 processor, a 3-megapixel camera, and DLNA support for media streaming. The Flipout and Flipside, on the other hand, each pack a 720MHz TI OMPA 3410 processor, the same 3-megapixel camera, and a 2.8-inch QVGA and 3.1-inch HVGA screen, respectively. Somewhat notably, the Flipside also boasts a surprisingly large trackpad, which ATamp;T says will let you navigate with one hand while keeping your fingers off the screen (though it does, in fact, have a touchscreen). Look for the Flipout to be available first on October 17th for $79.99 on a two-year contract, while the Flipside and Bravo should be each available before the holiday season for $99.99 and $129.99, respectively. %Gallery-104311%

Here's a little something to make your weekend fly by -- Android Central scored a hands-on look at Verizon's dual-mode CDMA / GSM worldphone, the HTC Merge (or is that Lexikon?) and it's looking like one hell of a handset. Though the prototype's Android 2.2 build is saddled with HTC Sense and Bing for search, the hardware's reportedly superb, with a "clicky and responsive and very well spaced" slide-out QWERTY keyboard with no Desire Z hinge nonsense, and a weighty, solid feel. There's also a 5 megapixel shooter that does 720p video, a likely 2GB of on-board storage and 512MB of RAM, not to mention an 800MHz processor that'll surely help derail the megahertz myth with superb benchmark scores. See it pull a 1,500 in Quadrant after the break, and start dropping those nickels into your piggy bank.

Your Friend is sharing the "Altek Leo, the 14 megapixel Android cameraphone, headed for Europe in 2011" article with you.

Check out: "Altek Leo, the 14 megapixel Android cameraphone, headed for Europe in 2011" - www.engadget.com http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/03/altek-leo-the-14-megapixel-android-cameraphone-headed-for-euro/?icid=engadget-iphone-url
Altek's wonderfully outlandish Android-based Leo smartphone, which sports a "real" 14 megapixel CCD with "real" 3x optical zoom and 720p video, was already slated for Q4 of this year in Asia, but Altek has recently announced the phone will also be launching Q1 2011 in Europe. On a slightly disconcerting note, Altek says it's still in search of "channel partners," so if you happen to know any channel / partner combos, push this little monster in their direction before 14 megapixels starts to sound old hat, would you?

Show full PR text
A new king of the smart phone jungle is sharpening its claws for a European debut. Beginning first quarter 2011, imaging technology leader Altek roars onto the continent with Leo, the world's first Android-enabled 3.5G smart phone to feature an HD-capable 14-megapixel camera. The company is currently seeking channel partners in the region as it prepares to bring Leo to market.

You say that other smart phones have cameras? Leo eats them for breakfast. By starting with the best available digital imaging technology, Altek has built a cutting-edge Android device with unmatched photographic and video capabilities.

Throw your old digital camera to the lions. Leo does it all with image quality and functionality far exceeding anything else in the mobile communication space. Convenience, power and connectivity put Leo at the top of the food chain when it comes to smart phone photography.

"Memorable moments usually happen when you least expect them," observed Altek CEO, Alex Hsia. "You want to be able to capture those precious moments anytime and anywhere, and Leo is the device that lets you do just that. " Hsia added, "Leo is the product of design know-how that comes from years of creating breakthroughs at altek in digital imaging technology, integrated with most advanced Android smartphone system."

Leo doesn't skimp on the features users have come to expect in today's crowded smart phone market. That includes a generous 3.2-inch WVGA multi-touch capable display for easy input. Each phone ships installed with Google's Android 2.1 (Eclair) mobile OS, allowing simple access to e-mail, Web browsing, and social media services like Facebook YouTube, and Flickr. Leo keeps you connected with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3.5G (HSPA/WCDMA) wireless and network protocols. Enjoy high-speed broadband connections via 5.76mbps HSUPA or 7.2mbps HSDPA.

Leo's built in GPS makes navigation and geotagging images a snap. Accelerometer, digital compass and handwriting recognition all contribute to what this powerful smart phone can do for you. Whether listening music or watching movies, you will discover Leo supports most major audio and video formats. Don't worry about finding room for your files; Leo's memory is expandable up to 32GB via microSD card.

Digital imaging and video are where Leo really shows its teeth. Few smart phones can deliver a comparable set of photographic features that start with a 14-megapixel CCD and 3x optical zoom lens. High-definition, professional-quality images are always a click away. It doesn't stop with digital photography. Leo also shoots crystal clear 720p HD digital video, capturing life's memorable moments anytime and anywhere.

This predator has sharp eyes. Leo's 3x optical zoom represents a breakthrough in smart phone design by delivering a feature photographers have come to expect from today's cameras, but not from their mobile devices. It puts users right in the action, opening up a world of photographic possibilities. Whether at 36mm or full 108mm equivalent magnification, Leo takes sharp, vivid images every time. Like its feline namesake, Leo is at home in the dark. Low-light situations are not a problem thanks to Leo's powerful built-in xenon flash and auto-focus assist lamp.

When it comes to getting the perfect image when you need it, Leo is ready to help with smile- and blink-detection technology. Why wait to transfer photos to a computer before editing them? Leo packs a suite of handy options that allow "editing on the fly," so users have the image they want before it leaves the camera.

How does the leader in digital camera technology start a revolution in smart phone design? Altek assembled one of the most experienced and dynamic Ramp;D teams in the industry, drawn from tier-one mobile phone manufacturers.

A dedication to excellence in design and quality has made Altek one of the largest DSC ODM companies in the personal electronics field. At the core of Altek's camera technology is the Sunny 9 digital image processor. It is the brainchild of Altek's crack team of design professionals-industry leaders and PhDs working to develop latest chip technology to power Altek's cameras and smart phones.

"The challenge facing Altek's design team was how to integrate a fully functioning 14-megapixal camera with 3x optical lens while maintaining Leo's smart phone form factor," said JS Liang, Altek vice president and head of Ramp;D. "An optical lens requires precision moving parts and mechanisms that ensure the device functions properly, but it also has to be attractive and easy to use. We achieved this without compromising Leo's look and feel."

The results speak for themselves: a sleek smart phone that is as powerful as it is elegantly executed.

Apple TV 2 vs Roku HD-XD-XDS

Check out this video on YouTube:

Your Friend is sharing the "Apple TV restores in iTunes via micro-USB, UI hacked onto iPod touch (video)" article with you.

Check out: "Apple TV restores in iTunes via micro-USB, UI hacked onto iPod touch (video)" - www.engadget.com http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/30/apple-tv-restores-in-itunes-via-micro-usb-ui-hacked-onto-ipod-t/?icid=engadget-iphone-url
It sure didn't take long for the dev community to hack into Apple TV's iOS build. One of the first payouts is a port of Apple TV's "lowtide" 10-foot user interface to an iPod touch as briefly demonstrated in the first video after the break. While not very useful on such a small display, that could change when ported to the iPad's bigger 10-inch display. In fact, that might be Apple's plan according to our friend Erica Sadun who's been busily spelunking the Apple TV's disk image. She posits that the iPad could launch the lowtide UI when responding to AirPlay requests in a future iOS build.

Another minor victory was achieved by TUAW reader Arix who spliced the Apple TV's AirPlay daemon onto a jailbroken iPhone 3GS thus allowing it to receive AirPlay streams (second video). But the best news of all, perhaps, is the ability to restore the Apple TV in iTunes by connecting its micro-USB port to your computer. That means that existing PC- and Mac-based jailbreak tools can be updated to work over the connection. In fact, TinyUmbrella has already been updated to backup the Apple TV's SHSH blobs in order to preserve your ability to downgrade in the future. With 8GB of storage and 256MB of RAM to play with, we suspect this little media puck will become quite the developer playground, with or without Apple's consent.

PlayBook from BlackBerry Maker Research in Motion (RIM)

Here is my video post for the new RIM (Research in motion) iPad Killer called the PlayBook Tablet. Your Friend is sharing the "RIM introduces PlayBook -- the BlackBerry tablet" article with you.

Check out: "RIM introduces PlayBook -- the BlackBerry tablet" - www.engadget.com http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/27/rim-introduces-playbook-the-blackberry-tablet/?icid=engadget-iphone-url
Today at Research In Motion's annual BlackBerry Developer Conference, CEO Mike Lazaridis announced the company's new tablet -- the PlayBook. The tablet will utilize an OS created by the recently acquired QNX (just as we'd heard previous to the announcement) called the BlackBerry Tablet OS which will offer full OpenGL and POSIX support alongside web standards such as HTML5 (which is all tied into RIM's new WebWorks SDK). Lazaridis was joined on stage by the company's founder, Dan Dodge, who said that "QNX is going to enable things that you have never seen before," and added that the PlayBook would be "an incredible gaming platform for publishers and the players." RIM also touted the PlayBook's ability to handle Flash content via Flash 10.1, as well as Adobe AIR apps. The new slate -- which Lazaridis described as "the first professional tablet" -- will sport a 7-inch, 1024 x 600, capacitive multitouch display, a Cortex A9-based, dual-core 1GHz CPU (the company calls it the "fastest tablet ever"), 1GB of RAM, and a 3 megapixel front-facing camera along with a 5 megapixel rear lens (and yes, there will be video conferencing), but there was no mention of onboard storage capacity (if any). The PlayBook will be capable of 1080p HD video, and comes equipped with an HDMI port as well as a microUSB jack, 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi, and Bluetooh 2.1. The device clocks in at a svelte 5.1- by 7.6-inches, is only 0.4-inches thick, and weighs just 400g (or about 0.9 pounds).

In terms of interface, the OS looks like a mashup of webOS and the BlackBerry OS, even allowing for multitasking via what amounts to a "card" view. Interestingly, RIM and QNX boasted of the PlayBook's multimedia and gaming functions, but Mike Lazaridis also described the tablet as "an amplified view of what's already on your BlackBerry." That's due largely in part to a function of the tablet which allows you to siphon data off of your BlackBerry handset via Bluetooth tethering and display it on your PlayBook (a la the ill-fated Palm Foleo). While the PlayBook doesn't seem to rely on phone content alone, the press release from the company says that users can "use their tablet and smartphone interchangeably without worrying about syncing or duplicating data." RIM didn't hand out any solid launch dates beyond "early 2011," and of course, there was no mention of retail price. We've got a slew of content after the break, including the PlayBook spec rundown, the company's press release, and a full video of the device (and UI) in action -- so take a look!

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA--(Marketwire - 09/27/10) - BlackBerry DEVCON 2010 -

Editors Note: There is a video and two photos available with this Press Release.

Research In Motion (RIM) (NASDAQ:RIMM - News)(TSX:RIM - News) today redefined the possibilities for mobile computing with the unveiling of its new professional-grade BlackBerry(R) PlayBook[TM] tablet and BlackBerry(R) Tablet OS.

Perfect for either large organizations or an "army of one", the BlackBerry PlayBook is designed to give users what they want, including uncompromised web browsing, true multitasking and high performance multimedia, while also providing advanced security features, out-of-the-box enterprise support and a breakthrough development platform for IT departments and developers. The incredibly powerful and innovative BlackBerry PlayBook is truly a game-changing product in the growing tablet marketplace.

"RIM set out to engineer the best professional-grade tablet in the industry with cutting-edge hardware features and one of the world's most robust and flexible operating systems," said Mike Lazaridis, President and Co-CEO at Research In Motion. "The BlackBerry PlayBook solidly hits the mark with industry leading power, true multitasking, uncompromised web browsing and high performance multimedia."

The Tablet You'll Want to Take Everywhere

This beautifully designed and incredibly powerful tablet is ultra portable, ultra thin and super convenient for both work and play. Measuring less than half an inch thick and weighing less than a pound, the BlackBerry PlayBook features a vivid 7" high resolution display that looks and feels great in your hand. With such a unique mix of utility, performance and portability, you'll want to take it everywhere.

The New Benchmark in Tablet Performance

At its heart, the BlackBerry PlayBook is a multitasking powerhouse. Its groundbreaking performance is jointly fueled by a 1 GHz dual-core processor and the new BlackBerry Tablet OS which supports true symmetric multiprocessing. Together, the abundant processing power and highly sophisticated OS enable the BlackBerry PlayBook to provide users with true multitasking and a highly-responsive and fluid touch screen experience for apps and content services.

Uncompromised Web Browsing

With support for Adobe(R) Flash(R) Player 10.1, Adobe(R) Mobile AIR(R) and HTML-5, the BlackBerry PlayBook provides customers with an uncompromised, high-fidelity web experience and offers them the ability to enjoy all of the sites, games and media on the web. For more than a decade, the mobile industry has worked to bridge the gap between the "real web" and mobile devices through various apps and technologies and, in fact, a significant number of mobile apps today still simply serve as a proxy for web content that already exists on the web. The BlackBerry PlayBook closes that gap and brings the real, full web experience to mobile users while also opening new and more exciting opportunities for developers and content publishers.

High Performance Multimedia

The BlackBerry PlayBook features premium multimedia features to support high-quality mobile experiences. It includes dual HD cameras for video capture and video conferencing that can both record HD video at the same time, and an HDMI-out port for presenting one's creations on external displays. The BlackBerry PlayBook also offers rich stereo sound and a media player that rivals the best in the industry.

BlackBerry Integration

For those BlackBerry PlayBook users who carry a BlackBerry smartphone(i), it will also be possible to pair their tablet and smartphone using a secure Bluetooth(R) connection. This means they can opt to use the larger tablet display to seamlessly and securely view any of the email, BBM[TM], calendar, tasks, documents and other content that resides on (or is accessible through) their smartphone. They can also use their tablet and smartphone interchangeably without worrying about syncing or duplicating data. This secure integration of BlackBerry tablets and smartphones is a particularly useful feature for those business users who want to leave their laptop behind.

Enterprise Ready

Thanks to the seamless and secure Bluetooth pairing experience and the highly secure underlying OS architecture, the BlackBerry PlayBook is enterprise ready and compatible (out-of-the-box) with BlackBerry(R) Enterprise Server. When connected over Bluetooth, the smartphone content is viewable on the tablet, but the content actually remains stored on the BlackBerry smartphone and is only temporarily cached on the tablet (and subject to IT policy controls). With this approach to information security, IT departments can deploy the BlackBerry PlayBook to employees out-of-the-box without worrying about all the security and manageability issues that arise when corporate data is stored on yet another device.

QNX Neutrino Reliability

The BlackBerry Tablet OS is built upon the QNX(R) Neutrino(R) microkernel architecture, one of the most reliable, secure and robust operating system architectures in the world. Neutrino has been field hardened for years and is being used to support mission-critical applications in everything from planes, trains and automobiles to medical equipment and the largest core routers that run the Internet. The new BlackBerry Tablet OS leverages and builds upon the many proven strengths of this QNX Neutrino architecture to support a professional grade tablet experience and to redefine the possibilities for mobile computing.

An OS Built for Developers

The Neutrino based microkernel architecture in the BlackBerry Tablet OS delivers exceptional performance, high scalability, Common Criteria EAL 4+ security, and support for industry standard tools that are already familiar to hundreds of thousands of developers. The OS is fully POSIX compliant enabling easy portability of C-based code, supports Open GL for 2D and 3D graphics intensive applications like gaming, and will run applications built in Adobe Mobile AIR as well as the new BlackBerry(R) WebWorks[TM] app platform announced today (which will allow apps to be written to run on BlackBerry PlayBook tablets as well as BlackBerry smartphones with BlackBerry(R) 6). The BlackBerry Tablet OS will also support Java enabling developers to easily bring their existing BlackBerry 6 Java applications to the BlackBerry Tablet OS environment.

Key features and specifications of the BlackBerry PlayBook include:

Availability

Video Calling with the new iPhone 4! Face Time on iPhone 4 Works Great!

Tonight I tried using the new Face Time feature with iPhone 4 for video calling. My brother had recently bought his new iPhone and I wanted to try it out to see if it was as easy and simple as Steve Jobs stated it would be in his presentation of the new iPhone during its June 2010 unveiling.

After calling my brother, we were able to quickly and easily turn on the FaceTime function and were able to see each other instantaneously! It was that easy! Of course, you would need to have both iPhone 4s or the new iPod touch 4g and both persons need to be using wifi to make the new FaceTime feature work. But that was great as it worked the way that Steve Jobs had stated and demonstrated.

New iPhone 4 Cases are Sold at Ross!!

Today I went to the mall and ended up shopping at Ross. Ross has misc sections and one of them is for cell phone cases, namely, today I saw cases for the iPhone 4! I was surprised because the iPhone 4 just came out a few months ago and Ross already has cases for it! I snatched a few, along with some iPad cases.

Here is a video of the iPhone 4 cases that I saw:

Update on the Steve Jobs detained in Japan with Ninja Stars Story

This is my update on the Steve Jobs detained in Japan with Ninja Stars Story. It turns out that Steve Jobs did go on vacation in Japan in July 2010, as stated by Apple, but that the whole incident with him attempting to bring Ninja throwing stars on board his private air plane was false, as stated by Apple. But during the past couple months, news and tabloid magazines all over Japan were raving about this story. Apple denies that the entire incident ever happened and that Steve Jobs is not mad at Japan or its airline service, and that he will be returning to Japan sometime in the near future for a vacation.

Here is an animation of what may have occured:

New Apple Peel 520 Case that Turns iPod touch into Phone coming to USA soon

This morning I read that the new Apple Peel 520 is coming to the US pretty soon as a deal was made between Go Solar USA and the Chinese developer of the Apple Peel, Yosion. The Apple Peel is a case that straps onto the iPod touch and turns it into a phone with voice and text messaging capabilities. It does so by equipping the iPod touch with a SIM card and the software needed to make and receive phone calls and text messages. with this device for the iPod touch, you can then take it to a cell phone provider and activate your "phone." Earlier this month at the Apple Annual Fall Music event in San Francisco, Apple CEO, Steve Jobs, stated that the iPod touch is "like an iPhone but without the phone." Well, with the Apple Peel, which will retail for about $60, the iPod touch is now definitely a "phone." Also, the new Apple Peel device that will soon ship in the US will be compateble with the new generation of iPod touches (the one with the front facing HD capable video camera, Retina display, face time, etc.).

New HTC Desire Phone to come with Free Sense program

The new HTC Desire Phones (Z and HD) will come with an added bonus cloud storage information program, much similar to Apple's MobileMe program, where customers are able to store information in the "cloud." Whereas Apple charges its customers $99/year to used the MobileMe service, the Sense service from HTC will be free to customers who purchase its new HTC Desire phones. This service also allows the user to locate his or hers phone when it gets lost, and allows a provider's IT department to remotely lock or shut down and transfer the customers information.

Although including a free "cloud" service like Sense with its new HTC Desire phones to future purchasers, this service alone may not be a deal breaker and customers may choose other phones still because the HTC Desire is as good of an Android phone as other Android phones, but is not an iPhone 4 killer.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs Detained in Japan for Ninja Stars!

I woke up this morning to discover on my iPad that MacDaily News had reported that Apple CEO, Steve Jobs, was reportedly detained in Japan for trying to carry Ninja stars on board his plane.

Here is my reading of the article from this morning:

Later on today, there was an update to the story on MacDaily News stating that the whole thing did not occur and that there was a misunderstanding. Also that Steve Jobs will likely visit Japan again in the future. The earlier post stated that Jobs was so furious that he stated that he was not going to ever visit Japan again.

Well, I am glad Steve Jobs is walking freely and this was all a misunderstanding.

Netflix Ap Arrives on iPhone 4 and iPod touch

A couple weeks ago, the Netflix Ap finally arrived to my iPhone 4 and iPod touch. I have a Netflix account (minimum account is $8.99 plus tax) and I have access to all of Netflix's instant play/streaming videos anytime I like. But I had never been able to access it via my iPhone or other iPod devices. But now I am able to and the streaming can be done over wifi or 3G networks. The quality on both networks is pretty comparable.

I tested the Netflix Ap on my iPhone 4 while I was at a rest area in Highway 5 in Oregon last week and the quality was great! I was able to watch a Kungfu flick while resting from driving. Of course, the Internet fiber along Highway 5 is one of the strongest in the US as it goes from southern California all the way up to Washtington to the north.

Below is a review and demonstration of the Netflix Ap from my iPhone 4:

If you do not have a Netflix account yet and you are a movie lover, I recommend it very much and if you have an iPhone or iPod touch, you should download the free Netflix Ap right away and start enjoying your Netflix movies. Have fun and enjoy!

I Want the New iPod touch 4G!!

Steve Jobs announced the new generation iPod touch (4th Gen) on September 1 at Apple's fall music event in San Francisco. The new iPod touch is said to be the best iPod of all time with features that have never been introduced before on an iPod. Its features are comparable to this year's iPhone 4 and features the new Retina Display, 720p HD video recording (yes that's right! HD VIDEO RECORDING!) and even supports a front facing camera for Face Time. As we all know by now, Face Time is Apple's method of video calling (currently only available with iOS devices over wifi).

With all these features, Steve Jobs even stated that the iPod touch is "like an iPhone but without the phone," or an "iPhone without a contract" which made people in the audience laugh (because it is true of course). With all these cool new features, the new iPod touch is great for someone who is on the fence about buying the new iPhone, but would like to experiment with it and own something similar. The new iPod touch is perfect for that person. But if you are an Apple fan and love their products, then you would probably buy the new iPod touch anyway. So have fun with your new iPod touch and I will probably be getting mine pretty soon.

Test of Apple's New HDR Imaging System for iPhone 4 in iOS 4.1 update

Apple included a new feature last week when it updated its iOS to the 4.1 that will work with all the latest iOS devices such as the new iPhone 4, iPod touch 4g and future iPads. This new feature works with the devices' camera, namely the iPhone 4's camera, and allows the user to take photos with HDR or High Dynamic Range imaging.

With HDR, the iPhone's camera is now able to take multiple photos per shot, and the camera merges two photos that contain the lightest and darkest areas of the image, creating a final HDR image that is truer to what the image looks like in real life. This in turn makes the final HDR photo appear clearer and with more vibrant colors than what a standard image would look like.

I did a test of this new feature with my iPhone 4 and photographed my DVD player in HDR mode. The first image is the standard image:

And this is the HDR image:

You can see a little bit of the difference as the HDR image is clearer and has more "true" color to it. The shadows do not appear so dark on the HDR image and the lighter parts are not completely washed out like the top (standard) image.

There is also an ap in the Apple Ap store that takes the idea of HDR further, the HDR Pro Ap, which has more features and user controls over the HDR image before saving. This is yet another great update to the iOS from Apple for the iPhone 4 and other iOS devices.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX7

Preview of my new Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX7 camera. Full unboxing coming soon.
I just connected my iPhone 4 to this blog page so that I can instantly post via text message on location. I love technology.

HD Video And Photos Filmed And Edited Using IPhone 4

Check out this video I just made using the new iPhone 4:

I made this video using entirely the iPhone 4. Filmed, edited using the ReelDirector Ap for iPhone, and uploaded over 3G. They video quality of the new iPhone is amazing as all the footage was shoot in 720p and the photos were 5 megapixels. In the above video, I had to reduce the width to make the video fram fit this blog page, but you can also go to the actual video site and video in 720p HD Here.

If you also have a video filmed by your iPhone, feel free to comment and send me an attachment.

Thanks for watching.

My iPhone 4!! Unboxing and more!

I recently received my iPhone 4 in the mail and I am very excited to share my experiences with it to you.  The first thing I did was to capture the moment by making an unboxing video.  Here are the unboxing videos I made:
Part One - Apple iPhone UnBoxing with Big T

Part Two - Apple iPhone 4 UnBoxing with Big T

In my opinioin, the iPhone 4 is just as good as Steve Jobs said it would be. The iPhone 4 has the new Retina Display which displays the screen in a 960 by 640 resolution on a 3.5 inch screen. It also has two cameras that are capable of taking both photos and video. The great thing about the new rear camera in the iPhone 4 is that it is now capturing videos in HD! 720p HD to be exact! And the rear camera also boosts a flash for photos and the LED flash can also be turned on for filming videos in low light are at night time! I have tested its functionality out and the flash actually works! I will post a video showing the quality of the video with and without the flash.

Stay tuned as I continue to use my iPhone 4 camera and I will report what I learn and post some more videos for you.
